Local Restaurant Inspired Meal Week - The Pint Room Burger Bar & Crafts

This week we are going to be visiting some of our favorite Central Ohio restaurants right here in our own kitchen.  It's Local Restaurant Inspired Meal Week!!!!

Today we will be visiting The Pint Room Burger Bar & Crafts in Dublin.  They feature 102 taps with a focus on local Ohio breweries and they have amazing burgers.

4415 West Dublin Granville Rd, Dublin, OH 43017

Prince Charming and I have eaten here a few times and have always enjoyed it.  I have tried the Black & Bleu Jacket (Blackened Burger + Bleu Cheese Crumbles + Bacon + Cajun Aioli + Lettuce + Tomato + Red Onion + Brioche Bun) and I think Prince Charming has had the Truffle Shuffle (Signature Burger + Sautéed Mushroom + Swiss Cheese + Truffled Arugula + Roasted Tomato + Roasted Garlic & Aleppo Aioli +Brioche Bun), but nothing topped the visit when I ordered the P-B-B& J Burger.

What is a P-B-B & J Burger?  Well it is a Burger with Sea Salted Peanut Butter, Candied Bacon, Ohio Monterey Jack Cheese, Strawberry Preserves and Fresh Strawberry Slices on a Brioche Bun, and it is absolutely amazing.  It is also the burger I am going to try to recreate here at home.

Here is my version:

P-B-B & J BURGER

Serves 4

INGREDIENTS:
1lb ground beef, 80/20 lean
1tsp Kroger Grill Time Hamburger or Steak Seasoning
1 pat of butter
1tsp salt
1tsp cracked black pepper
12 slices Candied Bacon (see recipe below)
4 slices Monterey Jack Cheese
Strawberry Preserves
Creamy Peanut Butter
1/2 cup fresh strawberries, sliced thinly (about 1/8 inch thick)
4 Brioche Buns

DIRECTIONS:

1.  Make your candied bacon following the recipe below.  While the bacon is cooking you can begin slicing the strawberries.

I use this nifty gadget to slice the strawberries.  It's technically for hard boiled eggs but it works for other things too.

2.  Next start making your burger patties.  Gently mix in the Grill Time Hamburger Seasoning into the ground beef.  Do it very gently, just to combine.  If you knead the meat to much the burgers will get a chewy texture.  Burgers shrink when you cook them so form your patties a little larger than your buns.  To get flat burgers, use your thumbs to form a shallow indent in the middle of the patty.  When the burgers bulge up during cooking, they'll still end up flat.

3.  Melt a pat of butter in your frying pan before you add the meat.  Right before you put the patties in the frying pan, liberally dust your them on both sides with salt and fresh cracked pepper.

4.  Cook a good sized patty on medium high for about 5 minutes on one side.  DO NOT move the burgers for these first 5 minutes.  Add the Monterey Jack cheese to the patties after you flip them.  Cover the pan for the last 2 minutes of cooking to help the cheese melt.

5.  Let your burgers rest for a minute or two after cooking.  This allows the juices to redistribute into the meat.

6.  While your patties are resting, lightly toast your Brioche Buns.

7.  Build your burger: Bottom bun, cheeseburger, 3 candied bacon slices, strawberry slices, a good dollop of strawberry preserves.  Spread a good helping of Peanut Butter on the top bun.

8.  Serve Burger with French fries, kettle chips or coleslaw on the side.

CANDIED BACON

Recipe from Alex Guarnaschelli of Food Network

Serves 4

INGREDIENTS:
12 slices bacon, about 1/4 inch thick
Finely ground black pepper
1/3 cup light brown sugar

DIRECTIONS:
1.  Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

2.  Put bacon slices in a bowl, season them with pepper and toss with the brown sugar. Cover a baking sheet with parchment or foil and arrange the bacon in a single layer on top. Sprinkle any sugar left in the bowl over the bacon. Top with another layer of parchment or foil and top it, squarely, with another baking sheet. The baking sheet will flatten the bacon as it cooks.

3.  Place the tray in the center of the oven and bake for 20 minutes. Check the bacon by lifting the top tray and parchment. If it is not golden brown and fairly crispy, resist the temptation to turn up the oven temperature, and cook it for 10 to 15 minutes longer. Check it again. Keep in mind that when you remove the tray and transfer the bacon to a serving platter or individual plates, the bacon will "crisp" up a little more. Be patient!

All done and really yummy!

Everything was super yummy.  Obviously it wasn't as good as The Pint Room, but it was still really good for trying to make it at home.

Tuesday, we will be visiting Joey Chang's in Hilliard for the Spicy Triple Delight!
