HPSC: Week 6, Astronomy

Week Six:  July 3-7

This week we study Astronomy.  Things got a little hairy (no pun intended) with my Dad and his ongoing illness and while we were visiting the Ohio History Center last week our visit got cut short by a trip to the hospital for Dad.  Because of this we didn't get a whole lot of what we had planned done.  Here was the plan though:

Day 1

Because of everything going on with my Dad there is no Daily Prophet this week.  I hope we are able to get back to producing them but unfortunately I don't think it will be possible.

The first thing we did was pull out another of the Harry Potter science kits that I got on amazon.  This week we are doing the Harry Potter Spells and Potions Science Kit - Astronomy.   We did the First Years' Telescope, Studying the Movement of the Planets and the Stargazers activities.

In order to do the Stargazers activity we first learned about the constellations.  We used the map that came with the kit and had a lot of fun that night finding some of them.

Stargazers Activity
Our favorite activity was the Stargazers activity.  We loved how the beads lined up with the stars printed not he card.  The beads were glow in the dark so it was super cool when we turned the lights out.

 Day 2

Today is Independence Day and we spent the evening with our good friends.

Day 3

Today we read from the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.   We also watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blond Prince while coloring in our Harry Potter coloring books.

Our big project today was to make a Galaxy Shirt which would complete Step #2 (Make something!) of the Girl Scout Juniors Outdoor Art Explorer badge.

Day 4

Today is going to be field trip day.  We planned on visiting the planetarium at COSI.  COSI is Columbus's dynamic hands-on science center and they have an awesome planetarium.

When we got home we continued with some of the science experiments from the astronomy kit.  We did Watching the Planets, Sundial and Moon Phases activities.

Day 5

Today we leave for Nashville,  TN for the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest.  We are going to be seeing different kinds of stars...television stars.  We are so excited to meet one of our favorites, John Barrowman from Doctor Who (Captain Jack) and Arrow (Malcolm Merlin).  We just love him!!!  He is so funny and talented and I know we are both really excited to meet him.  We are also excited for Caity Lotz from Legends of Tomorrow (a favorite of Bug-a-Boo's since she is a bada$$ female character) as well as the star of the CW's Arrow...Stephen Amell.

On the way home from Nashville, Bug-a-Boo Had to write a one page "sketch" about the fun we had this week in order to complete Step #3 of the Girl Scout Juniors Scribe Badge.

Next week...Herbology
